The History of Black History Month
Black History Month began as "Negro History Week" in 1926. After 1976 it became Black History Month, celebrated in February in honor of the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.

Wofford's Desegregation Decade
Wofford College will examine the college's "Desegregation Decade" in February with a presentation by Dr. Beverly Tatum, President of Spelman College in Atlanta, a panel discussion with African American Alumni and an exhibit of photographs and documents from that decade.
Exhibition in the Martha Cloud Chapman Gallery, Campus Life Building, beginning February 8th.
Black Student Legacy Leadership Conference February 22-24th
Annual Black Student Legacy Leadership Conference sponsored by Wofford College, Converse College, Furman University, Davidson College, Presbyterian College, and more to examine issues concerning Black college students and provide leadership tools to stimulate effective forward advancement.
