Anti-Virus Policy

Background: Computer virus and other malware can adversely affect Wofford College ability to operate. Wofford College desires a campus network environment without electronic viruses and malware. The College needs a policy to establish expectations and requirements to prevent virus and malware from interfering with College business.

Policy: Information Technology Services (ITS) will establish policies and practices to prevent viruses and malware from affecting devices on the campus network.
 

Guidelines:

  1. ITS will recommend and enforce standards for protecting the college’s servers, computers, and mobile devices from becoming infected with malware.
  2. ITS will install appropriate anti-virus software on college owned computers and mobile devices.
  3. ITS will recommend appropriate anti-virus software for computers and mobile devices owned by students, faculty, and staff.
  4. ITS may take necessary measures, including Network Access Control solutions, to detect and quarantine devices with viruses or other malware on the campus network.
  5. Any activities with the intention to transmit malicious programs, such as viruses, worms, and Trojan horses or to participate in Denial of Service attacks are prohibited in accordance with the Policy on the Responsible and Ethical Use of Wofford College Technology Resources.

This policy applies to all types of devices connected to the Wofford College network including wired connections, Wi-Fi, or VPN.
