LIBA 101: Climate: Justice, Beauty, Hope (Dr. Dinkins)

Climate Change Research

There are three things I would like you to take away from this library visit.

1. Climate change research is interdisciplinary.

Research surrounding climate change can be from the sciences, social sciences, and humanities disciplines. Effective research requires reviewing information from a variety of perspectives and sources. Start by exploring how climate change impacts different fields. As researchers, explore diverse sources and remain open to changing evidence and perspectives.

2. Learn to evaluate sources with a critical lens and identify context.

Climate change data is often contested, has a political bias, or sometimes straight up incorrect misinformation. As researchers, you will learn that the authority of the information source or creator is not fixed. When beginning research, use library provided reference resources, peer-reviewed journals, government reports, and reputable non-government organizations (NGOs.) It is important to recognize that media sources have bias and agendas.

3. Information shapes policy and public opinion.

All government polices are shaped by how information is communicated and perceived. As researchers, you need to assess how data is presented and interpreted.
